Why a wardrobe edit isn’t about throwing everything out

When we hear the words “wardrobe edit,” it’s easy to picture a big, overwhelming cleanout - bags of clothes piled on the floor, half your closet gone, and nothing to wear.
But the truth is, a wardrobe edit isn’t about getting rid of everything. It’s about making space for the version of you that’s here now.
Many of the women I work with in midlife have been through big changes - body changes, lifestyle shifts, or simply feeling disconnected from their clothes. Their wardrobe still holds pieces from another time, another size, another season of life.
And that’s where the overwhelm begins.
A wardrobe edit is not about perfection or starting over. It’s about clarity.
Here’s what a wardrobe edit really does:
It helps you reconnect with what works for your body today
It clears out what no longer fits, feels right, or reflects your life
It shows you what you already own that does work
It gives you a simpler, more supportive place to start your day
It’s not about forcing yourself to wear trendy things or letting go of pieces you love. It’s about creating a wardrobe that supports your life now - with less stress and more ease.
A few gentle questions to ask during a wardrobe edit:
Does this still feel good on my body?
Does this reflect who I am now and how I spend my days?
Am I holding onto this out of guilt or hope, rather than joy or ease?
You don’t need a massive closet or a whole new wardrobe. Just pieces that fit, flatter, and feel like you.
If you have been staring at your wardrobe feeling stuck, it might be time to let go of what’s weighing you down - and make room for what lifts you up.
Until next time, Cintia
